OKEECHOBEE -- Okeechobee County has begun the design and engineering phase for the Lofton Road Improvement Project, which is a $7.1 Million project that is funded through a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Small County Outreach Program (SCOP) grant.
This project will include needed roadway safety and drainage improvements to Lofton Road, from the US Highway 98 west to the Railroad Tracks, approx. ½ mile from the Kissimmee River.
Those who utilize this roadway will begin to see crews in the project area (i.e., survey, etc.) to assist with the design and engineering for this important safety project.
No lane closures are expected but crews may be working near the travel lane. Please use caution in the area and watch for workers in the work zone.
The design and engineering phase of this project is expected to be completed by Spring 2025 (subject to weather conditions and other variables).
The bidding of this project and the start of construction is expected to begin by Fall/Winter 2025 (subject to weather conditions, bidding approval, and other variables).
Once construction is approved, signage will be installed within the area to notify the community of road work beginning.
