Brahmans knocked out of playoffs by Jensen

The Okeechobee Brahman varsity baseball team’s season came to an abrupt end in the district playoffs on May 7 as they fell to the Jensen Beach Falcons, 3-0.

The game had all the makings of a pitchers duel in the early going, with freshman Brahman pitcher Jacob Hardy controlling the Falcon batters with some great defensive plays from his fellow teammates. Brahman outfielder Ozzy Osceola used his speed in the first inning to come up on a grounder and make an impressive throw out of a Falcon batter at first base while fellow outfielder Deven Tedders has a big time throw to third base to retire a Falcon baserunner advancing into scoring position in the bottom of the second.

But things came apart in the bottom of the fifth. The first Falcon batter of the inning walked and an error allowed the next to reach on a bunt. Then Falcon Caleb Pendleton stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run home run to give Jensen Beach the lead.

That turned out to be all the Falcons would need as Okeechobee failed to muster a rally in the seventh inning. Offensively Okeechobee was able to put runners on base against the Falcons, but they just couldn’t bring them home. Throughout the first four innings alone the Brahmans stranded eight men on base.

Jacob Hardy pitched for five innings in that game, recording 15 outs. Hardy allowed four hits and three runs in those five innings, striking out two and walking one. Brady Markham led the Brahmans in hits with three followed by Corey Coleman with two. The Brahmans now end their season with a 10-14 record.
