Cow Town Rodeo and Speckled Perch Festival coming soon

OKEECHOBEE — Okeechobee’s ‘Cow Town’ Rodeo returns for grandstand thrills.

Rodeo fans get ready for the return of the roughest-and-toughest rodeo in South Florida. Professional Cowboys and Cowgirls will be ascending on the town of Okeechobee to compete at the Okeechobee ‘Cow Town’ Rodeo held on March 11 – 13, 2016, in the historic grandstand arena located on U.S. 441 North. Conveniently located across from Raulerson Hospital, the renovated arena provides covered outdoor seating and VIP seating, giving spectators an up-close-and-personal rodeo viewing experience.

This year’s three-day rodeo offers VIP seating, a VIP food & beverage booth, a Jumbotron playback screen, live music and specialty vendors.

Meanwhile, inside the arena fence, rodeo contestants have their eyes set on prize money and points to advance their careers on the Professional Cowboys Rodeo Association (P.R.C.A.) circuit.

“We are excited to give our fans even more rodeo excitement this year with a three-day rodeo. Special VIP seating and additional offerings have been added for the comfort and pleasure of our March rodeo sponsors and spectators,” said Fritz Brewer, head of Rodeo Production. “The rodeo is special to us not only because it supports a historical component of our county, but also because ticket sales provide educational scholarships for our youth.”

The historic Okeechobee Cattlemen’s grandstand rodeo arena is located in the heart of Okeechobee County at 1885 U.S. 441 North, directly off State Road 70.

Gates open all three days at noon, with events beginning at 2 p.m. sharp.

Advance tickets for the Okeechobee Cow Town Rodeo can be purchased online at or in-person at Eli’s Western Wear. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate for adults; $5 for children; and free for kids under six-years of age. Speckled Perch Festival to include parade, car show and rodeo

Okeechobee Main Street welcomes guests and visitors to the 51st Annual Speckled Perch Festival and Parade, scheduled for Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13, in Flagler Park.

The Speckled Perch Festival is the oldest celebration in Okeechobee, dating back to 1965.

At that time the festival honored the fishing industry with a parade and fish fry in the park during the height of the tourist season and the tradition continues today. There will be local talent, food, arts and crafts and fun.

The Speckled Perch Parade on Saturday at 10 a.m. sets the stage for the remainder of the weekend. There is a $10 parade permit fee to enter a float in this parade. Watching the parade is free.

This festival has no admission; just fun!

Revisiting an old tradition, Okeechobee Main Street is bringing back the Speckled Perch Car Show. The event will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration fee to enter your car is only $10.

Awards will be given for Best of Show and Top 10. This is an “open” show and organizers are encouraging all car enthusiasts to participate. Registrants will be the voters.
