Woman’s van repossessed with her pot inside

OKEECHOBEE — You know, sometimes it’s just best to not say anything.

But, when a local woman’s vehicle was repossessed she became upset and told a local deputy there was a marijuana pipe in the vehicle along with a vial that still “had a few hits in it.”

According to a report by Deputy Brant Harden, from the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO), the woman was in Walmart when her 2004 Dodge van was repossessed. He was then called to a local car lot when an employee at the lot found a white metal pipe in the van.

The deputy went on to say he was then approached by the woman who wanted her marijuana and pipe back. Deputy Harden then read the woman her Miranda rights and asked her if she wanted to talk to him.

She told him she did, so the deputy told her their conversation was going to be recorded. That didn’t stop her.

“I asked (her) if there was anything in the vehicle and she advised me there was a black vial and pipe inside the vehicle and the vial had ‘a few hits in it’,” stated the deputy’s report.

Deputy Brant then tested the vial and scrapings from pipe and those tests both indicated positive results for the presence of marijuana.

Together, the vial and its contents weighed 13 grams, added the report.

Deputy Brant then issued the woman two citations with a notice to appear in court on Jan. 4, 2016, at 1:30 p.m. The citations charged her with possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Although Deputy Harden does not say so, it’s probably safe to assume the vial and pipe were not returned to the woman.
