Evergreen Cemetery gate vandalized

OKEECHOBEE — Information is being sought concerning the person or persons responsible for breaking out the front gates to Evergreen Cemetery.

According to a report by Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) Deputy William Jolly the incident was called in Sunday, March 13, by someone who had just passed by the cemetery at 1116 N.E. 39th Blvd.

That call was received at 8:54 p.m.

“I found the front gate, which was connected to an automatic opening system, had been struck from the inside of the cemetery,” stated Deputy Jolly’s report.

“The gate appeared to be rammed open from the inside, pushing it outward and bending the gate.”

Damage to the gate was estimated to be around $2,000.

The deputy went on to note he found some rubber from a tire on the gate. He stated he also found a license tag bracket lying in the road.
