Concession stand burglarized, ransacked

OKEECHOBEE — A local detective is asking the public for their help in solving a break-in and theft from a building that houses the concession stand at the Okeechobee County Sports Park on N.W. 27th Lane.

A report by Deputy Jonathon Kemp, of the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) said thieves broke into the concession stand and stole 20 bottles of Powerade®, a popular sports drink, as well as an empty black cash register.

The register, stated the deputy, is valued at $100 and the drinks are valued at a total of $50.

Deputy Kemp indicated the burglary was found Tuesday, Dec. 29, and reported to the sheriff’s office around 8:30 a.m.

The thieves also attempted to pry open the door to a nearby shed, but were unable to gain entry. However, continued Deputy Kemp, he was able to lift a latent fingerprint from the shed’s door. That print will be entered into evidence.

According to the deputy’s report all of the drawers in the concession stand had been opened and the contents of those drawers had been thrown about the building.

“There were no signs of forced entry into the building. All of the entrances were unlocked,” stated the deputy.

If anyone has information concerning this burglary and theft, they are asked to contact OCSO Detective Bryan Lowe at 863-763-3117, ext. 5110.
