Okeechobee County Commission meets Thursday

OKEECHOBEE — The Thursday, Sept. 24 meeting of the Okeechobee County Commission will include consideration of a contract with CAS Governmental Services LLC for lobbying and Legislative consultant services.

Dale Milita, managing member of CAS, will present the contract. The total price of the contract is $28,000 per year and is paid in quarterly installments of $7,000.

In other business Thursday, the board will receive the county engineer’s report on the East West Conveyance Project. According to the county staff report, in 2008, the county began investigating a storm water filtration and control project labeled the East West Conveyance Project. South Florida Water Management District was to be a partner in the project but bowed out as the study progressed. The study was paid for by a grant from the State of Florida.

County commissioners will also consider approval of a $30,000 grant agreement between Okeechobee County and the Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County. The chamber will provide business development services for the county. The funds will be used to defray the cost of the salary and benefits for an employee who will promote and enhance economic development within Okeechobee County, to defray the cost of marketing Okeechobee County and defray the cost of employee’s travel, when traveling for promotion and marketing of Okeechobee County.
